Lobster-Tail Pot Helmet
English Civil War Era
This type of helmet was made by the thousands during the 17th C, both in England and all over the Continent,
to outfit the large standing armies of the time. Some examples were very finely made, but most were of
munition quality (as is the reproduction here), and some were downright cheap and crude.
The helmet shown here borrows elements from 3 surviving helmets. It is equipped with a 2-piece ribbed skull,
bossed cheek-plates, and rudimentary sliding nasal. It is protected against rust with a baked-on oil finish.
